Lipedema Reduction Surgery

Calves

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient came to us in the early stages of her lipedema. She was beginning to develop signs of ankle cuffing and was experiencing increased inflammation and pain in her lower legs. Dr. Schwartz performed Lipedema Reduction Surgery on her calves and ankles to reset the lymphatic system, by removing the lipedematous fat. This was the first stage of her Lipedema Reduction surgery.

This patient came to Total Lipedema Care with debilitating lipedema. The pain and swelling she experienced in her legs were so severe that she could barely walk. ⁣Her mobility issues, pain, and increasing fibrosis were interfering with her daily life and progressively getting worse. Combined with the painful symptoms of lipedema, this painful fat disorder also caused her to have a “tree-like” appearance in her legs, where the lipedema fat fully encompassed the thighs, knees, calves, and ankles- resulting in ankle cuffing. After seeking treatment, Dr. Jaime Schwartz developed a long-term treatment plan tailored to this patient to combat the chronic disorder. ⁣

Through surgical intervention with lymphatic sparing liposuction and Dr. Schwartz’s signature Manual Lipedema Extraction- this patient has experienced life-changing results, and she is only halfway through her treatment plan! This photo was taken after her third procedure with Dr. Jaime Schwartz, and the treated areas include anterior lower legs, anterior thighs, posterior lower legs, and proximal thighs.

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient came to us with pain, swelling, and decreased mobility caused by the severity of her Lipedema. Her treatment plan developed by Dr. Jaime Schwartz includes a series of Lymphatic Sparing Liposuction and Manual Lipedema Extraction ™ treatments in addition to long-term compression and Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massages to combat the Lipedematous fat and improve mobility and lymphatic flow. This patient’s severe pain was caused by oversized lipedema nodules found underneath the skin. These nodules were extracted during surgery using the manual extraction technique. This photo was taken after her first phase of treatment, which targeted the back of her legs. Notice the reduction of Lipedema fat in the back of her thighs after one surgery!

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient sought out Total Lipedema Care after experiencing severe pain in her legs, which caused her to nearly be immobile. Following her procedure, she was able to recommence an exercise regimen, and she walked four miles without experiencing the severe pain that initially led her to receive a diagnosis.

Lipedema Reduction Treatment is performed in phases. This patient will continue a series of surgical treatments to address all of the lipedema affected areas.

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

We love it when our patients send us progress photos and updates on how they are recovering. This patient-submitted transformation is a three-month progression following the second procedure in a series of Lipedema reduction surgeries with Dr. Jaime Schwartz at Total Lipedema Care.

This patient’s first procedure included Lymphatic Sparing Liposuction and Manual Lipedema Extraction on the front of her thighs and her second procedure was the same approach on the back of her calves. Her treatment plan, tailored by Dr. Schwartz consists of four procedures, so this update marks her halfway point! The inflammation in her legs, pain, and swelling has diminished and will continue to subside once her series of treatments is complete. ⁣

This before and after is following this patient’s second Lipedema Reduction Surgery. Her series of treatments are performed in phases and this result is after Dr. Jaime Schwartz performed Lymphatic Sparing Liposuction and Manual Lipedema Extraction on her anterior thighs and posterior thighs and calves.

Before surgery, this patient experienced severe pain, immobility, and interference with activities of daily living. Her clinical symptoms included easy bruising, pain with walking, increasing fibrosis, swelling, and masses.

During her second procedure, Dr. Jaime Schwartz removed more than six liters of lipedematous fat. Less than one month after her second procedure, this patient mentioned her legs are less painful, lightweight, and she is able to do more physical activity.

Her next phase of treatment is lipedema reduction surgery on her arms.

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient came to Total Lipedema Care with concerns about the excess skin and pain she was experiencing under her arms. During her consultation, Dr. Jaime Schwartz diagnosed her with Lipedema, and he developed a treatment plan to combat the symptoms she was experiencing and remove the oversized lipedema nodules.

This result is three-weeks post-operation that included Lymphatic Sparing Liposuction and Manual Lipedema Extraction. This patient did not have a lymphatic sparing arm lift. Once the lipedema nodules are removed from the arms, many patient’s skin retracts, and a lymphatic sparing arm lift may not be necessary. During the procedure, Dr. Schwartz removed 500 cc’s of fat in the right arm and 600 cc’s of fat from the left arm.

Dr. Schwartz does evaluate the elasticity and integrity of each patient’s skin to determine whether or not a lymphatic sparing arm lift would be needed as a part of the patient’s long-term treatment plan.

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

A fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty is a tummy tuck designed to remove excess skin and tighten the abdomen both vertically and horizontally. To accomplish this, an incision is made horizontally at the level of the pubic bone then a vertical incision is made above and below the belly button. This technique allows us to remove as much skin and lipedematous fat as possible to create a contoured waist.⁣⁣ For this patient, her lipedema nodules progressively grew from her legs before migrating to her abdomen and eventually her arms. The oversized nodules caused excess weight and pain in her abdomen, which ultimately led her to seek treatment from Total Lipedema Care. Lipedema in the abdomen can cause added pressure on the legs leading to additional inflammation, which is why at Total Lipedema Care, we treat the stomach in one of the beginning phases of Lipedema Reduction Surgery. Throughout her series of treatments we will treat this patient’s legs, arms and abdomen.

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient originally came to us exclusively for a skin removal procedure after Massive Weight Loss and left with a Lipedema diagnosis and treatment plan. ⁣

Before she consulted with Dr. Jaime Schwartz, this patient was unable to lose weight with a diet and exercise regimen, so she resorted to Gastric Bypass Surgery in and effort to shed the excess weight she was carrying. After losing 170 pounds, following surgery she was left with excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat. ⁣

During her initial skin removal consultation with Dr. Jaime Schwartz, she spoke about the tenderness and stubborn pockets of fat in her legs, and after reviewing her symptoms, Dr. Schwartz diagnosed her with Lipedema. Her treatment plan included Lymphatic Sparing Liposuction and Manual Lipedema Extraction on her legs, in addition to a Fleur-De-Lis  Tummy Tuck to remove the excess skin in her abdomen. ⁣

The onset of Lipedema typically happens in the lower extremities and can eventually migrate to the arms as well as abdomen. This condition can be reversed and symptoms diminished with surgical intervention, but it is vital for patients to seek treatment or a diagnosis as soon as they begin to experience symptoms. ⁣

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient came to us after losing more than 120 pounds following Gastric Bypass Surgery. Despite losing a significant amount of weight, the stubborn pockets of painful fat and feeling of “heaviness” in her lower body remained. ⁣

With a family history of lipedema, she said she always knew her appearance was different and can now look back at her childhood photos that justify this feeling. ⁣

“For years I have always known that my legs are different…and that just progressed throughout my whole life.” -Patient⁣

Lipedema typically begins in the lower extremities and can progress to the abdomen and arms if not treated when early symptoms are recognized. For this patient we treated the lipedema in her lower extremities with Lymphatic Sparing Liposuction and Manual Lipedema Extraction, and we removed the excess skin in her abdomen with a circumferential abdominoplasty.

Buttock Shelf

LYMPHATIC SPARING LIPOSUCTION AND MANUAL LIPEDEMA EXTRACTION

This patient came to us after having surgery with another surgeon, yet still experienced the symptoms and pain associated with lipedema. Her lipedema caused her to develop isolated fat symmetrically on her upper buttock (also known as the buttock shelf) that has a large, abnormal, and disproportionate shape. These very noticeable pockets of fat caused her buttock to be very sensitive to touch with poor circulation, and excessive bruising. In advanced stages of lipedema, this type of fat is very resistant to diet, exercise, and nonsurgical treatment. It can be frustrating to not understand why you are gaining weight in targeted spots without the rest of your body following suit— but early diagnosis is key when treating this disorder. Contact us today if you think you may have lipedema.
